Pre-meeting brief | Willits
WHAT: City Council
WHEN: Wednesday at 6:30 PM
WHERE: City Hall, 111 East Commercial Street, Willits
City of Willits meets Wednesday night. The city decided previously to drop any remote meeting technology and is set to meet in-person this week.
Thinking of making public remarks about something not on the agenda?
The city keeps a time slot open for public comments at the top of the agenda.
City Manager Brian Bender recommends council members pass a resolution supporting both county sales tax measures.
Measure P revenue would be distributed among all fire departments in the county with 10 percent going to non-profit Mendocino County Fire Safe Council.
The city’s packet of information for the Sept. 28 meeting contained estimated county wide numbers.
If you read the ballot information, Measure O locks in funding for county libraries with a .25 percent tax on gross receipts to be deposited in special fund.
One new policy is on the agenda.
Public Works Director Scott Herman will present an “Annual Water Distribution System Flushing Plan.”
Details of the flushing plan are forthcoming, the document was omitted from the agenda materials.
You can expect a verbal report about the last City Finance Committee meeting, too.
The city reports that in Sept. three new business licenses were issued.
Pre-meeting brief | Brooktrails
WHAT: Board of Directors
WHEN: Tomorrow at 7 PM
IN-PERSON: 24860 Birch Street, Brooktrails
REMOTE: Zoom or 408-638-0968 Code: 7794192028#
Brooktrails Board of Directors meet tomorrow.
Directors will talk about the district’s need for water and sewer rate increases, garbage service rate increases and a rate hike at the golf course in advance of a Dec. 13 public hearing.
New Solid Waste of Willits rates are not published, but are expected to increase again in 2023.
For water and sewer, the district stated in documents that budgeted revenues alone cannot continue to sustain a balanced budget.
Base rates for water would increase 2.47 percent and 2.23 percent for sewer service.
Usage rates would increase 8.714 percent for water.
The district’s base rate for water would increase from $60 to $61.50 and from $75 to $76.67 for sewage.
Water customers would see an increase from $.03394 a cubic foot to $.03718.
Golf course patrons of a certain age can look forward to an annual senior citizen pass for $650 and $450 for disc golf.
Brooktrails also proposes to roll out a seasonal pass from May to October that would be $500 for adults and $125 for children.
Have you ever heard the statement ‘if speed kills, then I am a dead man’?
You would never know it as drivers reach Autobahn speeds on Sherwood Road, but the speed limit is 40 or 45 miles an hour in many places.
Directors will consider a letter to the Garberville CHP office requesting the California Highway Patrol to write some speeding tickets on Sherwood Road.
Letter to CHP: Due to the increased prevalence of speeding drivers, pervasive illegal passers and too many vehicle accidents in our community, the Board of Directors respectfully requests an increase in CHP speed enforcement patrols to discourage frequent violators. Increased patrols and enforcement will likely be the most effective deterrent against this bad driving behavior and we ask you for a more visible presence in our community.
