Hello reader. This is the NEWSBOY newsletter serving 95490. To recapitulate what was witnessed earlier this week, 10 percent raises were approved for City of Willits management, Trout Unlimited made a pitch to the city to gauge interest in releasing water from Centennial reservoir and the roof over City Hall is leaking.

The need to release water would be to sustain fish and the amount water released would be negotiated. A representative of the organization said it would be in the 10,000s of acre feet.

Next week: Brooktrails conducts a hearing for raising garbage rates. Although the percent increase sounds small, it all equals a larger and larger bill for people to pay. Read on to find out more on the rate hearing.

Brooktrails meets Tuesday night

Brooktrails board of directors meets Tuesday night for their final meeting of 2021.

The board will conduct a hearing  to consider raising Solid Waste of Willits garbage rates for Brooktrails.

A monthly rate for a 35-gallon container would increase to $38.46. SWOW’s rate for that size container has risen from $32.65 in 2018, according to information from the district.

SWOW stated in information provided to the district that for lack of demand there is no service for yard waste. But the deal includes an allowance to dump 1-cubic-yard for free at SWOW’s Willits operations.

This table shows the 2022 rates to be voted on Tuesday.

Annually, the rate increases sought by SWOW in recent years were in the $20 range–this year's rate increase is $5.04 in the 35-gallon category. Similar to this year, an annual increase of $6.24 happened last year.

Looking back, 2018 was a rough year for the rate payer. Brooktrails’ report shows two increases in 2018: An increase of $16 in Jan., and $18 in July.

The cost of having a 35-gallon can for one year will have risen $69.72 in four years.
