Some rain better than none

Perhaps nextime rain is due we will get more.

But as stressed as the vegetation gets these recent summers’, anything helps.

The hills around the valley looks more like they could turn golden brown any day, not the beginning of spring.

A cattle rancher once said that a late rain can really make the grass grow.

Here’s hoping we get some late rains or any kind of doggone rain.

CEO Angelo: Retirement letter

County CEO Carmel Angelo retires on Saturday.

Supervisors approved promotion of Assistant CEO Darcie Antle to the position of CEO March 20.

Supervisors today approved a 1-year-contract with Antle.

Angelo’s letter, attached to a larger file for the regularly issued CEO’s Report, was dated March 14.

Another area I am concerned about is the ongoing public disillusionment with government. As the legislative body, it is critical to seek information, rather than listening to the vocal minority that defames county representatives for self-satisfaction and personal gain. These attacks damage the County's ability to recruit and retain good employees. Public comment & criticism come with the job of elected and appointed officials, but those constant false allegations make it difficult to promote a career in public service. –CEO Carmel Angelo

In another paragraph, Angelo talks about an emphasis on employee compensation before “community requests.”

As I leave, if I can give any words of caution, it is to save county dollars, not to spend them on non-mandated services. Your workforce is the most important asset as that is how the work of the county is accomplished. The workforce should be considered first before money is spent on community requests. –CEO Carmel Angelo

Angelo addressed county workers in a recent video, supervisors approved a proclamation for Angelo and wrote the letter mentioned here.

Drought: Concerns, not much support for regs’

County Supervisors Glenn McGourty and John Haschak, the county’s drought ad-hoc committee, presented a proposal Tuesday to regulate water hauling and sales.

McGourty and Haschak’s colleagues on the board said they were worried about regulations hurting the ability of drought stricken homes to get water or the risks of raising the cost of water.
