Parks of Brooktrails
If there is an underutilized resource in our community, it may be the parks in Brooktrails.
The parking lot to Ohl Redwood Grove is near the junction of Birch Street and Clover Road.
A riparian area along Willits Creek is sure to interest the nature-curious. Up on the dry ground you find redwood trees growing back from the old high stumps of the original trees growing on the flat.
Walkers will find room to roam around the grove and there are picnic tables, too.
You may stumble upon the imprint of an old swimming pool, a relic of the not so distant past.

Brooktrails post-meeting
Face-to-face again
The next time you attend a board of directors meeting it’s going to be in person.
Directors did not re-up for remote meetings tonight, meaning directors will meet face-to-face March 22.
Some board members do believe that an option for remote participation should not be discarded entirely.
A technological advancement called an “owl” is a meeting camera made by Owl Labs that could make hybrid style meetings a reality.
Directors approve ordinances
Ordinances approved tonight seek to reign in out-of-bounds water use in Brooktrails.
Ordinance 163 established penalties for water theft.
(a) A fine of (and not exceeding) one thousand dollars ($1,000) for a first violation. (b) A fine of (and not exceeding) two thousand dollars ($2,000) for a second violation of the same ordinance within one year. (c) A fine of (and not exceeding) three thousand dollars ($3,000) for each additional violation of the same ordinance within one year. (d) All penalty fees must be paid in full before water service may be returned to normal.
The new ordinance also penalizes those who tamper with water meters:
(a) A fine of (and not exceeding) one hundred thirty dollars ($130) for a first violation. (b) A fine of (and not exceeding) seven hundred dollars ($700) for a second violation of the same ordinance within one year of the first violation. (c) A fine of (and not exceeding) one thousand three hundred dollars ($1,300) for the third violation and each additional violation of the same ordinance within one year of the first violation. (d) All penalty fees must be paid in full before water service may be returned to normal.
Ordinance 164 created penalties for exceeding the use cap.
$1,000 penalty fee plus the overage water use above 9,000 gallons at the volumetric water rate times 20 (currently $90.75 per thousand gallons). o 1,000 gallons over = (1,000/7.48) * $0.6788 + $1,000 = $1,090.75 fee o 3,500 gallons over = $317.63 + $1,000 = $1,317.63 fee o 5,000 gallons over = $453.75 + $1,000 = $1,453.75 fee, and so on
Ordinance 163 and 164 passed with support from all five board members.
The board received public comments and questions from Berlin and New York.
Both long distance parties had questions about building on undeveloped lots.
