Brooktrails Fire Department is struggling to background-check new employees and volunteers, a report from Brooktrails Community Services District stated.
Directors will consider on Tuesday a solution to begin conducting the process in-house compared to relying on the services of contractors who Brooktrails says are relatively unavailable.
“The District has had a couple of full-time applicants and fire volunteers that have been hired since 2020 without a basic fingerprinting for criminal background check,” Director Tamara Alaniz’s report in the meeting materials stated.
The plan is for Brooktrails to see that a member of its staff applies with the Department of Justice to serve as a “Custodian of Records.”
Doing so puts Brooktrails in a position to then send potential new hires to a police station for a fingerprint scan in a system called Live Scan.
