Beautiful oaks

The oaks in Recreation Grove Park are beautiful in the mid-morning light of a recent June day.

The city’s urban forest plan says that more than 25 percent of the City’s trees occupy Rec Grove. Full-grown valley oak trees like these are about 90 percent of all trees in the park.

Tree management in that park is alloted $27,000 each year for five years in the city’s draft budget.

Trout Unlimited project stalled again

Trout Unlimited, a formidable organization in the field of stream restoration and conservation, wants the city to release water into Davis Creek.

Mayor Saprina Rodriguez tabled the item Wednesday at the beginning of the meeting.

Trout Unlimited is expected to be meeting with concerned landowners, Rodriguez said.

Dialogue did not provide details on what those concerns could be regarding more water in Davis Creek, a tributary of Outlet Creek.

The request is for the city to release 74 acre feet at a rate of .3 cubic feet per second from July to November, Trout Ultd stated in a presentation it had prepared for last night.
